History of Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc.
In 1967, D. Ray Marshall opened a machine shop out of his garage with little to nothing to start with. Over the years Ray acquired many types of machine tools to be able to run and operate.
In 1969, Ray found a small 2,800 sq ft building to rent. He went and borrowed money to purchase new machine shop tools. Late in 1969, Ray hired his first employee. After a few years of growing in the industry and gaining clients, Ray decided in 1974 that he would erect a new 5,500 sq ft building dedicated to this new business. The name Buckeye Machine Fabricators Inc. was selected for his new business operating in the 5,500 sq ft building.
Eight years later (1982), another 5,500 sq ft manufacturing space and 1,600 sq ft of office space was added and more employees were hired.
In 1984, Ray purchased some real estate next to his current operation and added another 9,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and storage space. The business prospered and grew during the remainder of the 1980’s. During this time, many departments were developed within the company; such as engineering, sales, additional office help and many more skilled trade employees. Buckeye, at this time, was now doing business with Fortune 500 companies. There were 36 full-time employees at the end of the 1980’s.
n 1991, the decision was made to add another 11,000 sq ft of machine shop space and 2,700 sq ft of office space. Large machines and equipment could now be built within the company. Once manufacturers learned that Buckeye could handle larger jobs in a timely manner, business once again started to increase.
In 1994, Buckeye once more added 20,000 sq ft of machine and manufacturing space; 1,200 sq ft multifunction/lunchroom and a 1,500 sq ft conference room. In late 2009, added an additional 10,000 sq ft of fabrication space and a finishing building that was 5,000 sq ft.
In 2024, Buckeye came to the conclusion that we were running out of space and made the decision to add on to the fabrication side of the building with another addition of 5,000 sq ft. This addition was built for receiving and steel processing.
In 50 years, Buckeye has continued to grow with adding on manufacturing space, office space and employees. Buckeye Machine has grown from a one-person garage shop to a recognized leading innovator of specialized machine building in Ohio and surrounding areas. Buckeye has nearly over (45) employees, 70,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and is still growing.
Are we done growing…… Probably not!
Facilities
Our modern, well-equipped facility in Forest, Ohio, near Mansfield, encompasses over 80,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space. We pride ourselves in offering everything from conceptual design to final product testing, all under one roof. With the exception of plating services and advanced heat-treating, every process necessary for manufacturing components and turn-key machines is performed under our direct observation and control.
