Buckeye Machine's History

Back in 1967, a young man by the name of D. Ray Marshall decided that he wanted to own and operate a machine shop. He had been building race cars in his garage for a number of years. He also had several years of experience as a tool room machinist. Over the years, Ray had acquired his machinist tools, a welder, a cutting torch, a metal saw and an old press.

With these tools and equipment, Ray began to build miscellaneous items such as: basketball posts, basement posts, picnic tables and anything else that he could find to build. All of this was done in his garage. In 1969, he rented a small 2800 sq.ft. building, borrowed some money, and bought some old machinery, which he dismantled and rebuilt. Ray worked as a salesman during the day and built the parts and/or equipment at night. Late in 1969, his first employee was hired.

In 1974, Ray decided that he would erect a new building dedicated to his new business. The building had 5500 sq.ft. and Buckeye Machine & Fabricators was selected as the company’s name. A quality control system was devised and new employees were hired. Buckeye started to grow.

In the late 70's, it became apparent that the new building was not big enough to handle the business being generated. So, in 1982, an additional 5500 sq.ft. of manufacturing space and 1600 sq.ft. of office space was added, and more employees were hired.

An adjacent lumber yard became available in 1984. With the purchase of this property and buildings, 8000 sq.ft. of manufacturing space and 1000 sq.ft. of storage space was added.

The business prospered and grew during the remainder of the 80's. During this time, an Engineering Department, a sales person and a sales representative, additional office help, machinists, welders, assemblers and a panel building electrical department were added. Buckeye was now doing business with Fortune 500 companies. There were 36 full time employees by the end of the 80's.

In 1990, the addition of an 11,000 sq.ft. of manufacturing space and 2700 sq.ft. of office space was added. Larger machines and equipment could now be built. With this capability of producing larger equipment, with on-time delivery, sales again increased.

With more business, it was decided in 1993 that further expansion was warranted. Buckeye now had 3 full time sales persons and 3 sales representative firms that were contacting current customers as well as generating new customers. In three years time, sales had doubled and the forecast was looking good. This expansion was looking to the future. Twenty thousand sq.ft. of manufacturing space, 2400 sq.ft. of engineering space with 9 work stations, 4300 sq.ft. of office space, 3000 sq.ft. of conference and meeting room space, new restrooms, a cafeteria/education center and a remodeled electrical and panel building room were added.

Buckeye has grown from a one person garage shop to a recognized leading builder of specialized machines and equipment for manufacturers. Buckeye has over 60 employees, approaching 500 years of total experience and know-how. Buckeye has based its operation on quality, timely delivery, price, service and customer satisfaction.

With over 50,000 sq.ft. of manufacturing, machining, assembly, engineering and support services, Buckeye can handle your requests for specialized equipment.
